As a lifelong blade-shaving purist / traditionalist, I feel like I’ve finally seen the light. I looked into getting this for quick shaves on the weekend so I don’t scratch up my new baby’s face, and I am surprised to say I am getting almost as close of a daily shave as I am with a blade, including as good as with a multi-pass wet shave, but without irritation and in less time. I can't believe I am writing this but I've basically given up on using blades any more.
My "tried and true" routine is- I prep with a preshave oil that I make myself (plenty of DIY recipes online, I use castor oil, olive oil, vitamin e oil, and hinoki essential oil, and since its cheap and easy to make I liberally apply), and then use Aesop’s neroli shave gel. The Aesop shave gel is very pricey but is crazy slick with minimal soapy lather so it is absolutely perfect for a wet electric shave, and the shaver is then super easy to clean - just a quick rinse. I finish with Kiehl's post-shave repair gel and a moisturizer (I use Hada Kabo hyaluronic milky lotion- it's inexpensive and outstanding). I clean the shaver in the cleaning station after every 2-3 shaves and bought a solution on amazon to replenish myself. I realize this routine is bougie but each shave is fast, very comfortable, and totally smooth, and my face feels smooth and soft all day!
Update: I switched to using Speick shaving cream with the shaver, with a preshave oil, and it’s working great. A little goes a long way and it’s a truly excellent product to pair with the shaver and not expensive.
jnilesMore Info than Review
The 53B foil and blade replacement shaver head fits both the Series 5 new generation shaver and Series 6. FYI, the "B" means black. I have found this head available from many places from $29 to $43. It has been available from Amazon since Jun 9 of 2020.
The cleaning and charge station is in fact a charging station too. It's operation is not really explained in either the shaver manual or the cleaning station manual for the Series 6. It is easy enough to figure out how to load the station with the cleaning solution cartridge and place the shaver in the station with the pictures. What is missing is how is the station works.
Once the station is loaded with the solution cartridge and shaver and you turn it on you should leave it on. The station will show a blinking blue light while it is working and it will cycle on and off during the cleaning/charging cycle. Mine cycled seven times. Each time after the initial cycle the unit would turn itself off and let the solution run back down into the cartridge and the blue light continues to blink. Next you hear a buzzing sound, if you have good hearing aids like mine, as the next cycle begins. That sound is only for a few seconds then the motor starts and runs a while and stops again. After if finally quits cycling the blue light stays on until the charge is finished and it turns itself off. Next day, if all worked right, the shaver is dry, lubricated, and fully charged ready for duty.
LuisWay better and cheaper than razors. I will not use Razors again!
Wow! I am never going back to razors.
In the short time i've used the Series 7 shave all facial irritation is gone.
I use a small soap lather and shave just like i would with razors but the diffrence is like night and day. It leaves my face feeling like i dhave agaisnt the grain but without the irritation or ingrown hairs.
I clean the head with water then spray a bit of Clippercide on it over night, then repeat.
Pros- Battery life is stupendous, i charged it once last week and it's still going strong(as reccomended for these batteries.) The shave feels great and with practice it takes me half the time it would with Razors. The small additional shaver it perfect for maintaining areas around the side burns. The shaver creates a good line without fading into the side burns. The handdle feels good when gripped. The power adjuster was great innitially when i started with irritated skin. Long term price when compared to razors(compared to Gillette and Dollar shave Club each shaver head lasts 18 months and some reviewers state even longer with care)
Cons- bulky cleaning/charging station. Cryptic icons for all signs. No plastic cover for countertop protection(carrying case is not very pourus and doesnt allow for propper drying). Regular price...(I bought it on Amazon for $139.00 includes reduced price abd $30 Amazon coupon). Price of cleaning liquid refills(cheaper alternative options available)
Conclusion- I wish i would have bought one sooner. I will be saving money in just a year of use. I would deffinetly buy again.
